My Summer Plans

Every summer teachers take a well-deserved step back from teaching to rest and relax. Well, most do. I always have a hard time in the summer. I want to rest and relax… can you hear my hammock calling me? but I always find myself pulled into learning more about how to be a better teacher.
This summer is no different so I wanted to share what I am working on.
Iste is hosting a Summer Learning Academy for only $20. It started on July 13th and will be focusing on Online Learning. I’m excited to learn how to teach better online as I’m sure we will be in and out of school next year.
Jennifer Casa-Todd and Adam Hill are hosting a course called Empowered Digital Leaders for FREE. It began on July 25th for 4 weeks. I recently read Jennifer Casa-Todd’s books SociaLeadia and LOVED it. I would highly recommend it to all teachers!
During the OAME conference last year a friend and colleague Laura Wheeler presented about creating Course packs for her classes using the Thinking Classroom method developed by Peter Liljedahl I’m working with others to create hyperdocs for the Grade 6 curriculum along with course packs. I’m currently searching through 3 part lessons and linking them with the new math curriculum.
I am also co-planning with a colleague for next year and we dive into the Experiential Learning world.
I’m also taking part in a book club reading “Me and White Supremacy” by Layla Saad. We have been divided into groups and are having discussions about what is coming up for us throughout reading this book. It’s a hard read but one that is essential for all educators.
As we all know COVID is still around and our school board voted for us to go back to school in September 5 days a week. They will suggest that to the Ministry of Education but who knows what they will suggest. And who knows what the COVID numbers will be at that time. So I’m working on planning digitally so my students will be able to access their work at school or at home.
Seems like a lot but I love planning and it makes my school year so much smoother if I am well planned. And we all know that this school year will be a stressful one.
Please let me know what you are working on this summer?
